
This is a project under CRMI that targets vulnerable families, with poor or no shelter at all. The project mainly covers the Sasasa-Lukole Village where it was found that many families are living below £0.75 a day, illiterate, and less productive. The most vulnerable are women, children, persons with disabilities, the elderly, and those affected by HIV/AIDS.
Project Objectives
The project is focused on restoring hope and developing a stronger community by empowering them with decent homes.
- Construction of at least 1 (one) home for each year for a qualified family
- Construction of Ventilated Improved Pit Latrines
- Provision of rainwater harvesting tanks
- Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (rubbish pits, wash stations, dish stands)
- Environmental preservation
Housing Qualification Criteria
The project is focused on vulnerable people in the community as classified below:
- Homes headed by the elderly with at least 3 dependants
- Orphaned families or guardian families with orphans
- Disabled persons that cannot work with at least 3 dependents
- Families with special needs children
- Widows/Widowers with at least 3 dependants
Housing Eligibility Criteria
- Live in very poor housing conditions- grass-thatched, leaking roofs, dirt floors
- Live on less that £0.75 a day
- Own land and have proof of ownership
- Live in an over-crowded room with poor hygienic conditions
- Identified by the local community as one in need of decent shelter
- Verified and approved by the CRMI project team
